Siemens & Halske AG.

Abteilung für Schwachstromkabel (SK2)

Berlin - Siemensstadt (Gartenfeld)

Tours - Potier                     101 km

Potiers - Angoulême         109 km

Angoulême - Bordeaux    116 km

What becomes clear from the foregoing introduction, is, that the project was the result of the conditions under the Treaty of Versailles, in 1919.

The victor's aims was to harm their former opponent, whatever we may think of it; it has an enormous self-harming effect on their own economy. Because, by acting that way, their own industry otherwise would have got to accomplish these projects.

After both the First- and the Second World War, Germany lost nearly everything, like suffered their opponents. But after a while matters have to be rebuilt and replaced, which creates economical prosperity.

Most of the content of this historical publication deals with cable laying, but some intriguing aspects attracted my attention. I have to admit first, that my 'specialism' is electronics and not telephone techniques. However, in some way we have been confronted with aspects of telephone technique and therefore some appeal does exist.

Therefore we would like to bring you in touch with some peculiar aspects of early cable and line-laying techniques. We have to think of capacitive matching of cables, but also about amplifier stations.

This photo I like most. It is apparent, that great care has to be taken as to the capacitance cable loading (and symmetry)
